Steve Makin is a freelance photographer from Cheshire.

Mathias, Roland

Roland Mathias was born at Talybont-on-Usk in 1915, the son of an Army Chaplain. Much of his childhood was spent in England and Germany. He took B.A. and M.Litt. degrees at Jesus College, Oxford, where he trained as an historian. Having taught in various parts of Britain, he retired in 1969, to live in Brecon. Roland Mathias helped to found Dock Leaves, later the Anglo-Welsh Review, which he edited from 1961 to 1976. A poet, he has published seven volumes, including Burning Brambles (1983), his 'selected poems'. He has also written a collection of short stories, and books on Vernon Watkins and John Cowper Powys, as well as editing books on David Jones, an anthology of short stories and Anglo-Welsh Poetry 1480-1980, with Raymond Garlick.

Matthews, Mervyn

Mervyn Matthews, translator, writer and retired academic, is the author of a number of books about Russia.

McAllister, Laura

Laura McAllister is a Lecturer in the Institute of Public Administration and Management at the University of Liverpool. She has stood twice as parliamentary candidate for Plaid Cymru, and was political analyst for BBC Wales's broadcast coverage of the elections to the National Assembly and European Parliament.

McMurray, Enfys

Enfys McMurry grew up in nearby Llantwit Major. Her father was involved in refurbishing the castle for Hearst. Her exhaustive research for this book has already been the basis of a television documentary for BBC Wales.

Meredith, Christopher

Christopher Meredith is a poet, novelist and currently lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Glamorgan. Born in Tredegar and educated at Abersytwyth and Swansea, he worked for some time in a south Wales steel plant, and as a teacher. His novels are Shifts, Griffri and Sidereal Time, and he is the author of a collection of poetry, Snaring Heaven. His books are taught in universities in Wales and England.

Meyrick, Ceri

Ceri Meyrick edited The Bloodstream and Seren Poets 2 while working for Seren. She now lives in London and works for Carlton television.

Middlehurst, Rob

Miles, Jonathan

Dr Jonathan Miles has taught at the Universities of Oxford and London, and has lectured internationally on modern art. He is the author of several books on David Jones' writings and visual art.

Miles, Kathy

Kathy Miles was born in Liverpool, but has lived for some years near Lampeter, where she is a librarian at the university.
